How Often Do Chiropractors Get Adjusted? (And How Often Should You?)

Short answer: we get adjusted a minimum of once a week, both of us, and we got adjusted right before our wedding at the risk of messing up the bride’s hair. For you, frequency depends on your age, how long the problem has been there, your history and your goals; you get a specific recommendation, with your own scan results, at your Report of Findings. Most people start more frequently, then reduce as the nervous system stabilises.
Why we get adjusted weekly
We know how critical a high-functioning brain and body are, not only to handle day-to-day stress but for prevention. Just like the beautiful buildings of Barcelona, our bodies need maintenance. Stress, whether physical, chemical or emotional, is unavoidable, and that is okay. We cannot eliminate your stress, but we can absolutely help your nervous system adapt to it. Weekly adjustments are how we keep our own systems adaptable.
The three phases of care
Every care plan at illumINNATE is individual, but most follow the same shape.
1. Intensive phase. At the beginning, adjustments are more frequent while the stability of the spine and the regulation of the nervous system are restored. Each adjustment has a cumulative effect, so following the recommended frequency is what produces results. Depending on your age, physical condition and how chronic the problem is, this can mean several weeks or months. Your first progress check tells us how quickly your body is healing.
2. Wellness phase. Pain is typically the last thing to show up and the first thing to go away; it is the tip of the iceberg. In this phase we address the months or years of accumulated stress underneath, and frequency comes down as the nervous system relearns balance. Leaving care here risks relapse, because only surface symptoms have had time to heal.
3. Lifetime care. Once optimal recovery is reached, we recommend a minimal frequency to maintain it: chiropractic as your preventative routine, the way you would treat dental hygiene or training. People who have experienced the difference usually choose this for themselves and their families.
How we decide, and how we check
We do not guess. At your assessment and at every progress check we track your symptoms, your posture photos, your INSiGHT scans (thermal, surface EMG and heart-rate variability), your quality-of-life questionnaire and your personal goal list. Every few months we sit down and look at what changed and what support you need for the next stretch. Frequency goes down when the numbers say it can.
What an adjustment actually does
What you notice, a pop, a release, is the surface. Beneath it, the nervous system is regulating, the brain-body connection is being restored and the body is healing from within. Healing takes time. Change happens deep below. Patience is powerful.
Frequently asked questions
Is once a week too much? Not for us. For you it depends entirely on your case; some start at two or three visits a week for a short period, others at one, and everyone reduces over time.
How long is a regular visit? Usually 10 to 15 minutes, which is why so many people fit it into a workday.
Can I just come when it hurts? You can, and we will help. But pain is a late and unreliable signal, and waiting for it means starting over each time.
