Chiropractic for Women: Cycles, Hormones, Pregnancy and Postpartum

Short answer: the nervous system regulates hormones, the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, birth recovery and the changes of menopause. When the spine and nervous system are under stress, all of those get harder. Chiropractic care for women is about keeping the nervous system adaptable through every one of those stages, and it is the reason Dr. Kelli became a chiropractor in the first place.
Kelli’s story
Dr. Kelli Turelli decided to become a chiropractor the day she received her first adjustment, on her 17th birthday, after years of acid reflux, digestive issues and menstrual-cycle dysfunction caused by chronic stress. Chiropractic changed her health and her life. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude in biology and then as a Doctor of Chiropractic from Life University, and now specialises in preconception, prenatal and pediatric care. You can watch her tell the story on our YouTube channel.
The cycle
Cramps, heavy periods, PMS: these are common, and common is not the same as normal. The nerves that supply the uterus and ovaries exit the spine in the lower back and pelvis, and the hormonal system is coordinated from the brain. Restoring movement to the pelvis and lower spine and reducing stress on the nervous system is a natural, non-invasive place to start. We have hosted “Periods & Prosecco” nights at the studio for exactly this reason: to debunk cycle myths and talk about better products and better options.
Preconception
Thinking of starting a family? We begin with a couple’s preconception assessment: we look at how both bodies are functioning and give specific recommendations for improving health and fertility inside and outside the studio. A balanced pelvis and an adaptable nervous system are the foundation you want before pregnancy begins.
Pregnancy
Prenatal chiropractic care keeps the pelvis balanced, so baby has room to settle head-down, and helps the body cope with the load of pregnancy: less back and pelvic pain, more comfort and mobility, and, in the research, shorter labor times for women under care. Care is gentle, on pregnancy tables, and can continue to your due date. Read more on our prenatal care page.
Postpartum
So many things happen after birth, in your body and in your life. Feeding postures, carrying, broken sleep and the physical recovery from birth all land on a spine that has just been through a lot. Regular postpartum adjustments help restore alignment, improve posture, ease neck and back pain and support the shift from survival mode back to rest and repair. Ask any of our mamas, and dads: this is a game changer.
Menopause and beyond
The hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause put new demands on the nervous system: sleep, temperature regulation, mood and joint comfort all shift. Chiropractic care does not replace medical care, but keeping the spine mobile and the nervous system adaptable helps many women through this transition with more energy and less tension.
Mental well-being
Physical tension and mental tension are the same nervous system. Women under care often report better sleep, less stress and a steadier mood; we measure the physical side with heart-rate variability on the INSiGHT scan so the change is visible, not just felt.
